Walks

  • Hadleigh Country Park and Castle - Stunning rolling hills with the castle positioned on a hill top with plenty of open space and stunning views of the Thames Estuary and local area. From here you can take a walk to Old Leigh in one direction or take a look around the 2012 Olympic Mountain Bike park. Plenty of space to allow your dog a good run around.
  • Two Tree Island - Follow the road around the back of Leigh Station and here you will locate a number of different walks. Just past the golfing range you will find the sea wall that will take you all the way along to Benfleet. Another walk is found over the bridge, this is part of Leigh National Nature Reserve and listed on the RSPB website so expect to see some bird watchers.
  • Gusted Hall Woods - Alot of people wonder where this is located. Drive along Main Road, Hockley. Just past the Potash Nursery you will see a turning on the left called Gusted Hall Lane. Follow this to the end and here you will find the woods. This is one of my favorite places to visit, there is a myriad of walks and paths to be found and followed, and for dogs that love to swim there is a large lake located in the middle, perfect for the summer months!
  • Cherry Orchard Jubilee Park - Acres and acres of paths, fields, lakes and woodland. Both Gusted Hall and Hockley woods can be accessed on foot from following the paths. Car park located on the B1013.
  • Belfairs Woods Nature Reserve - Another great place for summer walking as well shaded. There is a golf course situated here, so beware if your dog has a love for balls! There is also a cafe onsite called The Greenhouse.
  • Gunners Park - This is in Shoebury and is adjacent to The Garrison, great place to walk and explore with a large lake found in the middle. On the sea side to the park is a path that will take you all the way from the Coastguard Station, through parts of the Garrison (with access to the MOD beach - sneaky place to take dogs for a swim) to East Beach, which also has a large open grassy area. Please note that the swans in the lake can be very agressive towards all dogs, so please keep them on the lead if the swans are nearby.
  • Great Wakering Stairs - Located at the very end of Great Wakering. At the church turn right then left on New Road. Following the sign  'MOD road open to public' drive for about two miles until you get to the sea wall. Here you will find you can walk left and right offering superb views of the salt marsh. This is a nice quiet spot and you really will feel like you are at the very edge of Essex!
